Fresh from the success of selling out my March fashion show, I’ve been invited to cover Akron Fashion Week on April 25th. This feels like coming full circle since it was the very first fashion event I covered back in college in 2021. That experience sparked my passion for fashion writing and set me on the path to the career I love today. Honestly, I might not be the writer I am without that pivotal moment at Akron Fashion Week.

Partnering with Cash is King, producer Rafel Dixon is bringing together a lineup of accomplished designers ready to take the runway in an epic showdown. Designers in the show will participate in the “Walk It Like You Own It” Challenge, where only one can be the winner. Among the standout names are Kurvology, Mad Avenue, Wrem Rocks Enterprises, and Von Flex Apparel. With such a talented roster, picking a winner won’t be easy.

To celebrate culture, community, and the next generation of fashion leaders, AKFW will have a “Walk It Like You Own It” Kids Challenge featuring young creatives like kid model Ma’layah. More than just a fashion show, this event aims to inspire and showcase the future leaders in the fashion industry. Even giving emerging designers the opportunity to exclusively present their latest Fall/Winter collections on the runway. Between the competitions, runway showcases, and live performances by artists and comedians, this night will prove to be an unforgettable experience.

The first year I attended AKFW, they held their show at El Patrón Tequilería & Cuisine, but they quickly outgrew that space. This year, they’re hosting their show at The Bit Factory in Akron’s Bounce Innovation Hub. Doors will open at 5 PM for the kids’ challenge, with the main show slated to start at 7 PM. Anyone interested in attending the kids’ challenge can purchase tickets online here tickets for kids under 16 cost $20, with adult tickets priced at $40 – tickets for the main showcase can be found online here. With no front row tickets, Dixon states this will be a front row experience for everyone. Stay tuned for more exclusive coverage and updates on the show!
